1940 Census

Two brothers, that married two sisters:
George Washington LARK mar Virginia Catherine THOMPSON
Charles Henry LARK mar Eliza Alice THOMPSON

In 1940 George Washington LARK passed away on 22 Jan at the young age of 56.  The family scattered....

George's wife, Virginia Catherine THOMPSON Lark lived with her daughter Irene LARK Dess, son-in-law Joseph B. DESS, and son Scott E. LARK in a rented home for $30/month at 1100 Roland Heights, Baltimore, Maryland (Ward 27).    Five years earlier Virginia Catherine THOMPSON Lark lived in Reisterstown.
      Joseph B. DESS, age 36, completed 8th grade and his occupation was an auto and aircraft mechanic.
      Irene LARK Dess, age 29, completed 7th grade and her occupation was a "presser" in a shirt factor.
      Virginia Catherine THOMPSON Lark, age 55, completed 6th grade and was not employed. 
      Scott E. LARK, age 16, completed 8th grade and worked as a copper maker in a copper manufactory.  Five years earlier he also lived in Reisterstown.

Lenard Wilson LARK, age 34, lived with his wife, Ethel J. BULL, age 29, in a rented home for $5/month on Falls Road, Baltimore, Maryland (District 5).   Lenard Wilson LARK completed 2nd grade and worked as a steam shovel operator for road construction.   Ethel J. Bull completed 5th grade and was not employed. 

Lacy Mae LARK Clark, age 33, lived with her husband, Otto H. CLARK, age 37 in a rented home for $32/month at 218 Clarendon Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland (District 3).   This was considered a rural address.   The following family lived at this address:
       Otto H. CLARK, age 37, completed high school and his occupation was a machinist at Maryland Bolt and Nuts.
       Lacy Mae LARK Clark, age 33, completed 7th grade and was not employed.
       Raymond E. CLARK, age 12, completed 4th grade and was not employed.
       Virginia M. CLARK, [Margaret], age 9, completed 2nd grade and was not employed.
       Robert H. CLARK, age 7.
       Norma P. CLARK, age 5.
       Georgia E. LARK, age 20, listed as sister-in-law, single, completed 7th grade and was a nurse in a private home.
       Virginia LARK, age 14, listed as sister-in-law, single, completed 5th grade and not employed.
             Plus 2 additional lodgers.  

William HARRIS, age 26, lived with his wife, Vivian LARK Harris, age 21 in a rented home for $22/month on the 20-Block of Maryland Avenue, Baltimore City, Maryland (Ward 12).   Interesting note the Census was taken April 15, 1940 and their son, Jack Benjamin HARRIS was born May 21, 1940 -- hence not listed. 
       William HARRIS, age 26, completed 2 years of high school and his occupation machist helper in auto. 
       Vivian LARK Harris, age 21, completed 4 years of high school and was not employed. 
       John LARK, age 25, [brother to Vivian LARK Harris] completed 8th grade and was a chauffer for a taxi company.    The census takers list John LARK as a "lodger". 

Toy LARK, age 23, lived at Ft. George G Meade, Maryland serving as a Soldier.   The Census listed Toy LARK as single, completed 7th grade and in 1935 lived in rural Baltimore, MD.   

Troy LARK, age 22, was enumerated with his wife, Ruth KERINS parents William C & Margurite KERINS, at #5 Roaches Park, Baltimore City, Maryland (Ward 27).
         Troy LARK age 22, listed as son-in-law, completed 5th grade and was employed as a gardner in the landscaping industry.
         Ruth KERINS Lark, age 17, listed as the daughter, completed 6th grade and not employed. 
Troy Lark and his wife, Ruth were also listed at 6005 Falls Road, Baltimore City, Maryland (Ward 27). 

 

In 1940, Charles [Charly] Henry LARK was 65 years old and had been living in Kentucky.  

Charles LARK lived in Millstone, Letcher, Kentucky (Magisterial District 1) with his wifeAlice Lark, age 65,
